Shadow, Ice, and Flame: Introducing My Newest Characters

Preview

This story came to me after writing Alice and the Shadow short story. It is not really anything to do with that story other than I was inspired to write another installment in my Xenia world. I have briefly mentioned it in earlier posts that I am working on The Flame of Ilythir.

I decided to write a new fantasy with three main characters. I of course want to make it a romance (and I’m sorry mom…) but it is a “why choose”. Those have been some of my favorite to read as of late, and I thought it would be fun to dabble with this in my new story.

The first character is Kaelen. He is a Seraphim, that has been cursed by Xemius. Funnily enough I wanted to make him Xemius’ brother. I wanted him to be cursed and fallen. Xemius, if you will remember, is the Zeus-like god of Xenia. Well the gods of this world are the very same, and Kaelen is his fallen brother. I will keep the reason a secret for now, since it does tie into a major plot point.

I imagined Kaelen with black eyes, black wings, black locs. He has a deep skin tone, with a scar that cuts down his left eye to his chin. He’s 6’10” and all shadows. He’s moody, broody, and perfectly yearns for our FMC. He will be the brawn of the trio.

Then we have Alora. She is human in a world where humans are not supposed to have powers resembling the Gods’. Only the Fae in this world are gifted with powers. For Alora, she has been blessed by Notia, goddess of the hunt, to avenge her brother Adros. Alora has ice blue eyes, white blonde hair, and milky white skin. I wanted her to be the embodiment of ice. She is good with a sword and bow. She’s tall at 5’11. She will be the brains of the trio, and the first to meet Kaelen.

At last we meet Sylwen. They are fae with the powers of flame, descended from Toknir. They are going to have vitiligo and one green eye, one brown. Of course since they are fae they will have long fangs as eye teeth, and long pointy ears. They are going to be very beautiful, wearing more skimpy outfits that show off their beauty. And they’re going to be the glue that holds the trio together.

Of course getting what I want the characters to look like is only half the battle. They need to feel real too. I usually start by asking a set of questions and answer them in the voice of my characters. I’ll post that conversation for subscribers only tomorrow.

I’m so excited to share more about this new project as it unfolds. Thank you for following me from Xenia to Ilythir—your support means everything.
